BEHIND THE CURTAINS OF TIME
New Mexico

There's almost a secret little village tucked into an eddy of time in New Mexico. Going there reminds me of taking that circuitous route off the beaten path that those folks did in the old movie Lost Horizon, and they ended up in Shangri-La, a place bypassed by time. It feels like that here, too, except that there is electricity and radios and pick-up trucks, but you'll find woodburning stoves and old adobe walls to take you back. It all feels old, as does this view from behind the gauzy curtains separating eras of time. Anyone wishing to time travel need only hit the back roads of New Mexico, and you will be afforded glimpses into life that once was, and sometimes still is.
