FT. UNION WATCHES THE STORM
Northeastern New Mexico
As is entirely too usual, we got to Ft. Union way too late in the day, leaving only a couple of hours to explore and photograph in a place that deserved the better part of a day. Ft. Union was the largest fort in the Southwest, and it far surpassed the scope of such grounds that we were used to seeing. The uncommon coolness of the summer still prevailed, and it made for a grand time in which to immerse ourselves in the magic of the memories and the history there. To top it off, storms were brewing in the distance, adding to the drama and the perspective of the place. Ft. Union was witness to incredible events, and the walls now stand silent and leaning into the years of many winds that have swept across the plains.
